Today I want to show you the pattern of children's shorts in two lengths (short shorts and Bermuda shorts). The shorts are very comfortable and easy to sew. You can sew basic version without pockets or version with simple side pockets, it's up to you. This pattern is available in sizes 80 - 164.
You can get this pattern in my online store:

Recommended material
Pattern is designed for thinner knits (elastic fabrics), such as a cotton knit with elastane or a functional knit. I bought material for short shorts (for Terulka) and Bermuda shorts (for Tomík) in Unuodesign.cz store:
I used contrasting fabrics for pockets. In the case of Tomík's Bermuda shorts, it is a classic cotton knit with elastane in a dark gray color. In the case of Terulka's shorts, it's a colored micropeach (leftover from another project).

You can sew the shorts on an overlock or a regular sewing machine. If you are going to use a regular sewing machine, I suggest you read this article:
Sewing instructions
If you decide to sew shorts without pockets, you can proceed in exactly the same way as when sewing leggings. You can find sewing instructions for “five-minute leggings” here:

If you want to sew shorts with pockets, then you can follow sewing procedure below.
How to sew simple children’s short shorts or Bermuda shorts with pockets
According to the paper pattern prepare:
- 2x front piece
- 2x back piece
- 2x whole pocket piece
- 2x pocket piece with opening
The pattern contains marks that determine the position of the pockets. But you can choose the exact position of the pockets yourself.
Reinforce pocket openings order to strengthen these areas of the pocket pieces.
Lay the pocket piece (with opening) on the front piece.
If you use overlock, trim the pocket opening of the front piece as you go. If you use a regular machine, then sew the pocket to the front pieces and cut off the excess part of the front pieces. Then clean the seam (with zigzag stitch, for example).
Work on the other side in the same way. Flip the pocket piece to the reverse side of the shorts and iron both pieces.
Lay the second part of the pocket (whole pocket piece, possibly made from contrasting fabric) on the first part and sew the entire pocket pouch. Clean the cutting edges.
The pocket should look like this from the face side:
Lay the back piece over the front pieces. Sew the side seam.
Then sew the instep seam. The bottom edge is shaped - be careful not to accidentally cut off the "excess" part.
The rest of the procedure is the same as for sweatpants or leggings.
Turn one of the legs face side out and insert it into the other leg (this one stays face side in).
Align both parts of the crotch seam and sew.
Clean the upper cutting edge of the shorts (belt), fold it about 3 centimeters to the reverse side of the shorts and sew through this tab with an elastic stitch. Don’t sew around the entire circumference - leave about 2 cm wide hole near the back crotch seam so you can insert the elastic band. (Measure the correct length directly - wrap the band around the kid’s waist). Insert the band and close the gap.
Finally, clean the bottom cutting edges (legs) and fold (roll) them about 3 cm to the reverse side. Sew through both tabs with an elastic stitch.
